Privacy Policy

This policy explains how FoodCost.in (“we”, “us”) handles your information when you use foodcost.in and the FoodCost app. We run the site from Hyderabad, India, and we try to collect only what the tools need to work.

The short version

• You can use every calculator without an account.
• If you create an account, your recipes, prices and reports are saved to it so you can use them again. They are private to you.
• We never sell your data, and we never share your recipes or costs with other restaurants.
• You can ask us to delete your account and everything in it at any time.

What we collect

When you create an account

• Your name, and the email address or phone number you sign in with. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google. After you log in we may ask once for a missing name, email or mobile number; each is optional.
• Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication. We never see or store your password.

What you save in the tools

• Recipes, ingredient price lists, in-house items, combos, menu sales you enter or import, and monthly profit/loss figures.
• Your settings, such as currency and default targets.

When you use a calculator

• The details of a finished calculation and the date. In the Food Cost Calculator this includes the dish name and its ingredients with quantities and prices; in the other tools, the numbers you entered or got (for example food cost %, selling price or monthly rent). We use these to improve the tools and to see typical figures across all users. For visitors who aren't logged in, this is linked only to a random browser ID, not to a name, email or phone number.
• A random browser ID stored on your device, so we can count visitors without knowing who they are.

When you contact us or ask for expert help

• What you type into the contact or enquiry form, for example your name, phone, email, restaurant name, city and message.
• If you buy a paid service, the menu, recipes and supplier bills you share with us for that work.

Analytics and security

• Google Analytics (through Firebase) records pages visited, device and browser type, and approximate location from your IP address.
• While a page is open, the site checks in about once a minute with an anonymous browser id, the page you are on, device type, where the visit came from, a country guessed from your time zone, how many minutes you've been active, which tools you used this visit and how many times you've visited, so we can see how many people are using the site right now. If you are logged in, your account id is included.
• Phone sign-in uses Google reCAPTCHA to block automated abuse.
• We store a few small items on your device (local storage) to remember things like a closed banner, an unsaved draft or a cached copy of site settings.

How we use it

• To run the tools and keep your saved work available on any device you log in from.
• To reply to your messages and service enquiries, by phone, WhatsApp or email as you prefer.
• To understand which tools are useful and improve them. We look at numbers in aggregate, such as the typical food cost % across all users.
• To keep the site secure and prevent misuse.

We do not use your data for advertising. We may occasionally contact you by phone, WhatsApp or email about your account or about our services. You can ask us to stop at any time and we will.

Who we share it with

• Google (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Firebase Hosting and Google Analytics), which stores and processes the data on our behalf. Google's servers may be located outside India.
• Authorities, if the law requires it.

Your recipes, prices and sales are never shared with other users or other businesses. A small number of our own team members can view accounts to provide support and paid services. They are bound to keep it confidential.

How long we keep it

• Account data: for as long as your account exists. When you ask us to delete it, we remove your saved data, calculation and usage records, enquiries and your login within 30 days.
• Anonymous calculation numbers and usage counts: kept to track trends over time.
• Messages and service enquiries: kept for up to 3 years, so we can follow up and keep records of work done.

Your choices and rights

You can:

• See and change your saved recipes, prices and details at any time in My Recipes and account settings.
• Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or the deletion of your account and everything in it.
• Withdraw consent, for example by asking us to stop contacting you.
• Raise a complaint with us, and if you aren't satisfied, with the Data Protection Board of India.

We aim to follow India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. To use any of these rights, email costing@foodcost.in from the email address on your account, or tell us the phone number you sign in with. We will reply within 30 days.

Children

FoodCost.in is made for restaurant owners and food businesses. It is not meant for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

Security

Data travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Database access rules make sure each account can only read its own saved work. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. For important changes, we will also show a notice on the site.
