How the break-even calculator works
Good to know
What break-even means
The sales level where the money left after food cost exactly covers your fixed costs. Every order after that is profit.
Ways to lower it
- Raise the average bill: combos, add-ons and drinks.
- Cut food cost %: fix portions and re-price dishes that are over target.
- Trim fixed costs: every ₹10,000 less in overheads lowers the daily target.
Break-even Calculator — FAQs
What is a restaurant break-even point?
It is the sales level at which the money left after food cost exactly covers your monthly overheads — rent, salaries, utilities and marketing. Every order beyond it is profit.
How is the number of orders calculated?
Each order contributes its average bill minus food cost. Monthly overheads divided by that contribution over 30 days gives the orders you need per day, rounded up.
Should I include Swiggy and Zomato commission?
This calculator assumes direct sales. If many orders come from delivery apps, use the Profit/Loss calculator, which deducts platform charges first.
